Nokia is planning to unveil a 12 megapixel cameraphone to compete with similarly high-end imaging focused handsets from rival manufacturers.
According to unnamed sources at Nokia and lens manufacturer Carl Zeiss cited by PhoneReport, the new mobile phone will appear early next year and is most likely to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February.
This would mean that the mooted cameraphone is likely to beaten to market by the likes of Samsung’s Pixon 12 as well as the Sony Ericsson Satio and an as yet unnamed device from LG.
No official confirmation of the existence of the phone has yet been forthcoming from Nokia.
Currently, the highest grade cameraphones on the market sport eight megapixel cameras. These include the Samsung M8800 Pixon and the Sony Ericsson C905 Cybershot.
Alternatively, the LG KC910 Renoir teams an eight megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified optics, a Xenon flash, auto and manual focus.
