Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson has racked up over 2.5 million views for its customised digital TV entertainment show.
Dubbed PocketTV, the program, which is available to view on mobile phones and on YouTube, achieved the viewing landmark nine weeks after launching.
According to TechRadar, ratings have been growing consistently throughout the 13-week run, in contrast to programs shown on terrestrial channels where viewers tend to tail off after an initial surge of interest.
Sony’s experiment with tailored TV content for mobile phones comes as the company is gearing up for a host of high profile handset launches this year.
These include the company’s flagship mobile for 2009, the Sony Ericsson Satio as well as a new mobile phone running on the latest version of Google’s Android operating system.
Details of the latter have yet to emerge, but it is known that the Satio will be home to a 12.1 megapixel camera, a full touchscreen keypad and free movie downloads.
