lthough the [iPhone](/mobiles/deals/appleiphone3gs_16gb/ "iPhone 3GS 16GB) is still considered to be the third-party developer's platform of choice, Google's Android Market is enjoying a boost in popularity and profitability according to figures released by FADE this week.
The sales of gaming applications jumped by over 50 per cent in October, generating total revenue of £107,000.
The leap is being attributed to two primary factors; the release of the new HTC Hero smartphone and several major improvements to the Android Market system, making it easier for users to download and play games.
The Android Market has yet to break the million dollar mark when it comes to revenues from gaming, but another increase is predicted in November as still more Android handsets hit the market.
At the moment it is unlikely that creating games for the Android platform will make any developer a fortune; the best selling game of October 2009 pulled in just under £13,000.
However, it is likely that as awareness and the availability of Android handsets increase, so too will the potential for significant profit.
