Preview versions of the N900 are being constantly updated with new firmware to improve the Maemo platform before its general release.
Several N900s have already been distributed to professional reviewers and these phones have been receiving frequent software updates according to reports. These last minute updates are being seen as the motive behind the delayed release.
Some believe that with 300 N900s already in the hands of the critics, Nokia could be acting on feedback received from these independent experts, fixing software issues facing the N900 before its release and hoping to avoid disappointing those who are expecting so much from Maemo 5.
Until the retail version of the N900 is released the full extent of the updates will not be known, but there is some concern that further updates could be used as an excuse to delay the N900 still further.
