Firefox mobile app imminent - Nokia N900 first?

Mozilla has hinted that the Nokia N900 could soon be playing host to the first release of Firefox's mobile internet browser.

After more than a year in development the software will be exclusive to the Maemo-based N900 tablet smartphone for a short time after its release, but versions for Android and Symbian mobiles are expected to follow in the first half of 2010.

In addition to giving mobile users the chance to enjoy tabbed internet browsing, just like the desktop version, users will be able to synchronise their personal data including bookmarks and browsing history thanks to cloud computing.

A Mozilla spokesperson said that the mobile version of Firefox would be able to take advantage of the opportunities offered by cloud data management, including providing geographically-generated content.

Owners of the Apple iPhone will be disappointed that Mozilla is not planning to release a version of Firefox for their mobiles, with the firm citing the restrictive nature of the iPhone's platform as the main reason behind the decision.
