Improved Palm Pre on it's way? Palm WebOS update confirmed

The CEO of Palm is likely to reveal version 1.3.5 of the webOS mobile operating system during the Consumer Electronics Show in January next year.

John Rubinstein gave investors in Palm a few details about the update last week, with the main improvements being better Wi-Fi and longer battery life. Mr Rubinstein also said that Palm had tweaked the webOS software to make it even faster to respond to user inputs.

Mr Rubinstein explained the proactive development strategy that his firm was implementing in order to further the success of the webOS platform. Palm aims to constantly improve and update its software so that users are always getting the best experience possible.

It also appears that Palm will unveil plans to attract more third party developers to create apps for the webOS platform at CES when it takes place in Las Vegas. Mr Rubinstein told a Pre fan site that the main goal was to quickly bulk out the applications available for webOS mobiles, pushing the current batch of 800 to many thousands in a short period of time.

The final aspect of the webOS platform that is getting some attention is its cloud computing storage platform, which will be used in the future to provide content and communication for owners of the Palm Pre and other Palm smartphones. All that remains at this point in time is for Palm to convince others to take advantage of the opportunities the webOS software affords.
