Affordable Nokia navigation phone announced

Nokia has announced plans to release the 2710 mobile phone, which it claims will be the best value handset with built-in GPS and navigation software on the market.

The Nokia Map application will be preinstalled on the 2710, with mapping limited to include only the region in which the phone is sold. The 2710 will not eat into any mobile data allowance as the maps will be stored on a 2GB microSD memory card.

To complement the built-in GPS navigation, the 2710 will also have a digital compass program for those who want to navigate in a slightly more traditional manner when they are away from their vehicles.

The Nokia Maps software will feature the full complement of satnav functionality, including turn-by-turn navigation for professional guidance.

There is no trial period for the navigation function, as the 2710 comes with a lifetime license and the retail package will include a suction cradle to attach to a car's windscreen as well as an in-car charger.

Other features of the 2710 include a two megapixel camera, FM radio and 2.2-inch screen.

The Nokia 2710 is expected to hit stores around Europe in the first half of 2010 and is expected to cost under £130.
