During a live speech at a press conference taking place at CES 2010, an LG spokesperson officially confirmed that the brand new Windows Mobile 7 will be released at some time this year.
This has fuelled speculation that LG is working on its own Windows Mobile 7 smartphone and that it could be the first manufacturer to showcase the new operating system when it becomes available.
Microsoft's UK head also triggered similar murmurings recently when he commented that the delayed development of Windows Mobile 7 would mean that it could be launched in the latter half of 2010.
Many will be keen to scrutinise the new operating system when it is eventually released, as previous versions of Windows designed for mobile phones have been heavily criticised for their lack of user friendly features and disjointed selection of software.
There are fears that long delays to the next version of Windows Mobile could allow competitors Apple and Google to further increase their already significant lead over Microsoft in the mobile market.
