Marketing agency Virtue has ranked the iPhone as the best social brand in the world two years in a row now, with its social networking and media connectivity keeping it ahead of Disney in second place and news network CNN in third.
Several other Apple products were in the top 100 list, with iTunes sitting in 6th place whilst Apple itself was just two positions behind at number eight.
8 per cent of the companies in the top 100 were media-based and a majority of these were American-owned, including MTV Networks and Fox News.
The growth of marketing online using social media and networking has grown significantly over the past two years and the iPhone's Facebook integration and App Store have enabled it to become a particularly influential marketing tool.
The iPhone is one of the few mobile phones to make it onto the list, whilst games consoles and the manufacturers which produce them are a major feature of the top 20.
