The Android Market is the world's fastest growing online application store, new figures have shown.
According to a figures from Distimo, of the six largest mobile phone app stores, the Android Market is growing the fastest relative to its current size, beating Apple, BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) and Palm in the process.
Of course, given that the Android Market is dwarfed in terms of sheer size by Apple's App Store, which has over 150,000 apps on offer, the figures are not as negative for Apple as they might seem.
3000 apps are joining the Android Market's library each month, which puts its rate of growth at 15 per cent.
Meanwhile the App Store is clocking up 14,000 new apps monthly, equating to a nine per cent growth rate.
The App Store has been around far longer than most of its competitors and it has gained widespread mainstream publicity, making it easy to see why it has become the store of choice for software developers.
Distimo's research also reveals that the BlackBerry App World is the home of the most expensive apps on average, whilst app stores from Apple, Palm, Google and Nokia all have rather more modest average unit prices of £1.60 and upwards.
