PlayStation owners will rejoice at the news that Sony Ericsson will be taking steps to tie-in the home console's PSN service with Sony Ericsson mobile phones in the near future.

Sony's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Howard Stringer said: "To satisfy the demand for more open systems and to broaden the array of network enabled devices connected to our network services we are committed to extending that service to Sony Ericsson mobile phones."

According to Mr Stringer, the implementation of PSN on Sony Ericsson mobile phones will be part of a general widening of the network's reach. O

ther electronic devices produced by Sony, including Blu-Ray players and Bravia HDTVs will also get the PSN treatment, allowing for streaming between mobile phones and home cinema systems.

Whatever the final result of the partnership is, it will certainly make the Sony Ericsson smartphone range more appealing to gamers and media junkies around the world.

Mr Stringer spoke candidly about the future of Sony Ericsson and the potential for PSN compatibility during a video interview with The Lost Gamer.
