The next version of the BlackBerry operating system has just been put into the development stage, sources at the business phones' manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) have revealed.
According to an unnamed sources cited in a report from tech blog Boy Genius, RIM is beginning work on BlackBerry OS 6.0, although it is also apparently in the process of creating a stopgap edition.
This will apparently appear in the guise of version 5.2, which is to launch later in 2010.
The plans for an interim edition suggest that version 6.0 will not make an appearance until at least 2011.
Stakes are becoming higher and higher for RIM, however, in the wake of the wave of criticism over the incremental improvements offered by previous upgrades.
