SmartPhone Technologies LLC has become the latest in a growing list of firms to take issue with the iPhone, with the Texas-based business claiming that Apple is infringing on patents which it owns.
This time the claim relates to the software that allows emails to be synchronised on the iPhone, as well as to the handset's techniques to ensure that bandwidth is used efficiently. Even the Bluetooth wireless connectivity is under fire.
In this case, Apple is not the only smartphone manufacturer accused of wrongdoing, as Smartphone Technologies LLC has levelled similar charges at Samsung and Research in Motion (RIM).
In all, Apple is alleged to be in breach of six patents owned by the plaintiff.
Apple will be a veteran of the courtroom battle by the time the year is out. Its attack on HTC is being fought in tandem with its fight with Nokia and now this latest assault has been added to its legal department's 'to-do' list.
