Around 22 apps, games or other pieces of content are downloaded from the Ovi Store every second, according to new figures released by Nokia.
The Ovi Store is still less than a year old and it was only a few weeks ago that Nokia said that the service had surpassed the one million daily downloads mark. Now it has reported download levels reaching 1.5 million.
Users of the Ovi Store, who are required to register before they can get their hands on software, have now downloaded an average of nine apps each.
Interestingly the online market is more populated by paid-for apps than any of its rivals, with just 15 per cent available free of charge, research firm Distimo recently revealed.
In comparison, 57 per cent of apps on the Android Market and 25 per cent on the iPhone's App Store are available for free.
In terms of downloads and purchases, the iPhone is still winning out over its competitors. More than three billion apps have been downloaded since the store opened for business and experts estimate that iPhone owners account for over 99 per cent of the entire app market.
