The update that will bring Android 2.1 to the Hero smartphone is no longer going to make its revised release date, the phone's manufacturer HTC has disclosed.
Originally the plan had been to get the update out this month, but now official word suggests that Hero owners will have to wait until June.
A press release from the company stated: "HTC will be providing a free update to Éclair for European HTC Hero variants.
"Starting in June, anyone owning an HTC Hero will receive an initial preparatory update, shortly followed by the full Éclair update."
The release goes on to recommend that using the Hero's Wi-Fi connection is the best way in which to download the update because of its size and the data charges that might otherwise be incurred.
The delay is not a particularly severe one, but it will dishearten HTC Hero owners who have been looking with jealousy at the Android 2.1-sporting HTC Legend.
