BlackBerry phones get updated Google Maps

The updated Google Maps has landed on BlackBerry phones, bringing the business focussed in handsets in line with rival handset platforms.

Google has provided support for its Buzz social networking service in the updated app, as well as voice activated searching.

In addition, BlackBerry users can now synchronise Google Maps with their desktop PC.

Google Buzz is not just tacked on, but comprehensively functional within the app. Users can geotag your Buzz updates and see where other Buzzers are around them and what they are saying.

The standard version of the app is also accompanied by various beta release add-ons from Google Labs. That means that more adventurous BlackBerry fans can test pre-release versions of future capabilities, which include features such as in-app real time scale alteration.

Regular Google users with an account can enable the web history feature in their PC's browser and then synchronise previous searches with their BlackBerry, allowing the Google Maps app to suggest appropriate searches.
