HTC has used a South African media event to make a number of announcements concerning the planned capabilities of its future mobile phones.
HTC's South African head Quinton Leigh said that it is expecting to bring full HD video recording to its next generation of smartphones, as well as support for surround sound.
Mr Leigh told PhoneReport that 1080p video capture would be a major feature in the future and that his firm was working on a tablet computer based on the Android operating system.
HTC expects to launch the first 1080p phone in 2011 and its most optimistic estimate puts the release within the first half of the year.
5.1 surround sound created by Yamaha will be integrated into HTC smartphones before HD recording arrives.
Fewer details about the planned tablet computer were made available. The obvious target will be the Apple iPad and Mr Leigh hinted at a focus on both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.
