Orange to expand cheap Android phone range

The number of smartphones on offer on Orange is set to double in months to come and low-cost Android mobiles will make up a significant proportion of this expansion, the carrier has announced.

Orange's Patrick Remy has outlined plans to convert 30 per cent of the Orange range to mobiles that fit into the smartphone category before the end of 2010.

By 2013 over 50 per cent of Orange's offerings will be classed as smartphones, which shows that the network is embracing this booming section of the market.

Mr Remy explained that respected manufacturers such as LG would be helping it to meet its promises of offering great value smartphones without compromising on quality and he also revealed that an Android-based LG handset would be making its way to Orange soon.

He said: "Smartphones are still relatively expensive and not everybody can afford the high tariff plans where you get a smartphone for free."
