Owners of the HTC Hero in the UK and around Europe will be pleased to hear that the Taiwanese manufacturer has confirmed the roll-out of an Android 2.1 update is going ahead this week.
Owners of SIM-free Hero may already have downloaded the new iteration, but network-associated mobiles will have to hold on a little longer while their providers approve the new software.
Orange and T-Mobile have said that they are both planning to launch the new upgrade, but could not give a deadline for its availability. 3 is set to roll out the update in July after it has completed internal testing.
Android 2.1 first appeared back in January, but it has taken half the year for HTC to work on integrating its custom user interface Sense with the new platform for the Hero.
The two part firmware update is 80MB in size and HTC recommends hooking up the Hero to a Wi-Fi network so that users do not suffer from hefty usage bills at the end of the month.
