iPhone 4 pre-orders pass 600,000

Since the iPhone 4 was announced and the pre-order service opened this week, Apple has allegedly taken more than 600,000 orders for the as-yet-unreleased smartphone.

There was something of a media frenzy when the Apple site collapsed under the weight of traffic as customers attempted to pre-order the phone.

However, it seems these issues did little to stem the flow of consumers willing to part with their cash.

When this huge pre-order figure was revealed, the price of shares in Apple rose by three per cent, which is yet another piece of evidence confirming Apple's ability to perform in a difficult market.

Experts believe that Apple is faring well in a market that has been heavily targeted by major rivals such as Google and it is unlikely that it will be unseated in the near future.

Some observers have pointed out that the influx of iPhone 4 pre-orders is partly due to the high number of Apple phone owners who are coming to the end of a two-year contract and looking to trade up from their older iPhone 3G.
