Palm plans more WebOS smartphones

A range of new mobiles which utilise the WebOS platform are being planned by Palm, even though its takeover by HP had caused some to cast doubt as to the future of its smartphone business.

This news comes from a Palm employee, who spoke to developers at US network provider AT&T last week as to where Palm will be taking WebOS mobiles in the near future.

The Palm Pre, Palm Pixi and their remixed Plus editions are going to be complimented by a host of new mobiles, according to the source.

A spokesperson for Palm said: "I'm not allowed to talk about future roadmaps, especially because we're in the process of being acquired by HP, so I can't say. But yes we have a road map.

"We are working on future devices. And a new version of the OS. So I think, you're going to find the next year very exciting."

A sequel to the popular WebOS will be good news for many industry insiders, as it could be the platform that finally wins Palm some mainstream success as well as critical acclaim.
