PlayStation One emulator heading to Android phones

Google might claim that Android is a mainstream product, but enthusiasts are still drawn to the open source platform, with the latest news suggesting that a PSOne emulation app is on the way.

iPhone emulator creator ZodTTD is allegedly behind the Android PSOne software in a collaboration with other well known hackers who work on bringing retro games to modern platforms, PocketGamer reports.

The emulator is not ready for widespread release, but popular titles including Ridge Racer have already made an appearance in full working order on Android mobiles.

Support for the HTC Desire and Google Nexus One is presumed to be a priority due to the high hardware specifications necessary to run any emulated game at a decent frame rate.
