Recognising the growing demand for Android smartphones at the price concious end of the spectrum, 3 has added the Racer from Chinese manufacturer ZTE to its Android line-up.
The ZTE Racer boasts some respectable specifications and a number of useful additions and yet weighs in at around 100 grams.
Running Android 2.1 Éclair, the Racer has a sensibly sized 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen with a native resolution of 240 x 320.
Photographers will be pleased with the 3.2-megapixel camera and storing those shots should be easy: although the 256MB of on-board memory may soon be consumed, the racer comes with a 2 GB micro SD card.
Serious snappers will be pleased to discover that the racer can support SD cards of up to 8 GB. Music fans will not be disappointed, with six months' Spotify Premium included in the contract deals.
Other important smartphone features include GPS, Bluetooth connectivity and an accelerometer.
Wu Sa of 3's UK division said: "The Racer is ZTE's next step in making smartphones available to the UK market at prices affordable by the majority of consumers."
Social networking is a deciding factor for many smartphone buyers and the Racer includes support for Skype, Facebook and Windows Live Messenger.
The ZTE Racer is being offered on a pay-as-you-go plan at £109.99 or under 3's 'One Plan' contract.
