The web browser that comes with the updated Android 2.2 operating system is faster and better than that sported by the iPhone 4 with its new iOS 4 platform, according to independent tests.
Two different benchmarking tests were carried out on an iPhone 4 and a Nexus One running Android 2.2 by Ars Technica and the Android smartphone was consistently quicker than its Apple rival.
The speed of a mobile browser is obviously affected by variables outside the software itself and some might argue that the iPhone 4 offers a better overall browsing experience even if it is not quick as nippy as Android 2.2-based mobile phones.
However, it is likely that Android users will chalk this up as a victory over Apple.
