iPhones eat into BlackBerrys' market share

Apple is winning over more consumers than ever with its iPhone range, whilst the BlackBerry brand is seeing its market share slip, a study suggets.

According to figures from PC Advisor, 25.3 per cent of smartphone owners use an iPhone. Just 12 months ago, the iPhone's share of the vote was 17.2 per cent.

Canadian manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) is being hit hardest by the rise of Apple in the smartphone space, with its 15 per cent share in 2009 dropping to 9.7 per cent in the latest poll.

Nokia held onto second place with 19.6 per cent of users claiming to have its smartphones, ahead of HTC and Samsung, which took 13.6 per cent and 13.4 per cent respectively.

Apple's ascendancy is likely to be even more marked next year amid sales of 1.7 million for the iPhone 4 within a matter of days of its release in just six territories.
