Steve Jobs speaks over iPhone 4 antenna

An iPhone 4 user, who wishes to remain anonymous, had direct contact with Apple and its founder Steve Jobs for an explanation of the issues that have been plaguing its antenna.

The mysterious iPhone 4 owner had showcased how holding the handset in a particular manner results in a drop in signal on YouTube.

Not long after the clip was posted an Apple engineer caught site of it and a set of a chain of emails between the user and the engineer and eventually Steve Jobs began.

The user was decidedly vexed with the whole issue, claiming in a response to the engineer that the controversy had done indelible damage to Apple's reputation.

He wrote: "You are going to kill your brand over one product. Apple is coming off arrogant and rude. If there is no fix just tell people so they can return their phones.

"We have work to do. I have bought just about every Apple product made in the last 20 years and this is the 1st time I am ashamed to be a MAC fan."

It was Mr Jobs who fielded the next reply, saying that the user was "getting all worked up over a few days of rumours," and urging him to "calm down" - two suggestions that only inflamed his vitriol further, according to BoyGeniusReport.

Weighing in later in the exchange, the Apple CEO said: "You may be working from bad data. Not your fault. Stay tuned. We are working on it."

This is a slightly contradictory message to send out, as it implies that Apple is working on a problem with the antenna after Mr Jobs had tried to dismiss the idea that there was anything wrong.

There is scepticism surrounding this email chain, as some claim that the messages are phony, although there seems to be a significant amount of circumstantial data to support their veracity.
