Apple has removed videos that purport to show that rival smartphones affected by antenna problems comparable to those plaguing the iPhone 4.
The official Apple website and its YouTube channel both had video evidence until recently, when it mysteriously vanished, only to be replaced by adverts for Apple's continued development of antenna technology.
The move has fuelled speculation that instead of making Apple look better in the eyes of the tech industry, the clips had the opposite effect and instead made its own problems more high-profile.
The Cupertino-based firm was apparently taken aback by the wave of public anger over the iPhone 4's antenna issues and has rethought its game plan after initially choosing to go on the attack.
Problems with the iPhone 4's antenna, which arise when it is held a certain way, were discovered within a matter of hours of launch last month.
