LG has confirmed it will be launching its first Windows Phone 7-based mobile phone at some point in September and also that it will be joined by at least one more handset before 2011.
The first LG branded smartphone using the operating system is reported to be dubbed the Pacific, which will be be the first phone in a long line of LG mobiles bearing the new software from Microsoft.
Ken Hong of LG said: "We have a deep relationship with Microsoft so expect to have a couple by the end of this year."
He also explained that it would not be ditching alternative operating systems, with support for Android and many others to be extended well into the future.
LG has not launched a high end smartphone for many months, instead focussing on midrange Android devices and so it is expected that its Windows Phone 7 mobiles will be a significant step forward for the South Korean manufacturer.
The electronics company recently announced plans to overtake Samsung to become the world's second largest mobile producer.
