Nokia has officially announced the release and pricing details of its upcoming N8 smartphone.
Details of the N8’s release have been sketchy until now, with speculation suggesting it will be formally priced and dated in the Nokia World event next week.
Espoo has now confirmed that the N8 will go on sale on the Nokia online store for £429 as a SIM free option or on contract from £35 per month.
Although a firm release date was not given, Nokia has said that it will become available in the last week of September and is on preorder right now exclusively from its website.
Those looking to pick up the kit on a contract will have to wait until October 1st when it becomes available on virtually every major vendor and operator in the country, the likes of which include O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, Phones4u, Tesco, 3 and Carphone Warehouse.
The N8 boasts a 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics. It’s capable of video recording in full 720p and runs Nokia’s proprietary Symbian3 operating system.
The kit has been the subject of much hype as it aims to restore Nokia’s waning reputation since the below-par performance of its last flagship handset, the N97, from a over year ago, which Nokia went as far as calling a “tremendous disappointment”.
