The hype machine for Microsoft’s latest tilt at the smartphone market Windows Phone 7 is gearing up, with the appearance of a new ad that references Lawrence of Arabia.

The tech giant’s promo was trailed before a screening of the classic Britflick in London, wherein our lantern jawed hero leads a guerrilla force of Arabs to victory against the Ottoman Empire.
Microsoft’s ad comes after it recently unveiled the launch line-up of games for handsets running its OS, which included a mobile edition of first person shooter Halo, as well as titles aimed at causal players such as Bejewlelled and Guitar Hero 5.
Rumours suggest that we could see the first-ever Windows Phone 7 handset as early as next week at HTC’s mystery press event.
It is widely believed that the debut phone, reportedly dubbed the HTC HD7, will pack an industry-leading 4.5-inch, AMOLED touchscreen and hugely powerful 1.5GHz dual core processor.
The event is also thought likely to mark the first appearance of the HTC Desire HD, which augments the appeal of the huge-selling Desire Android smartie with the addition of high definition video recording and an eight megapixel camera.
