A new Star Wars app has arrived for Android phones on the US Verizon network.

The Empire Strikes Back application comes with a host of cool features to snare the Lucas fanboys, not least of which being a Bounty Hunter scavenger hunt and trivia challenge.

Also included is live wallpaper, clips from the best movie in the saga and a Star Wars news feed.

Released to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Empire, the app is free to download from the Verizon section of the US Android Market, but a fee applies for certain facets of the content.

In other news of interest to would-be Jedis is the release last week of the R2D2 themed edition of Motorola’s Droid 2 Android phone.

Packing the latest 2.2 version of Android, AKA Froyo, the limited edition handset also offers a five megapixel camera, a slideout physical QWERTY keyboard and 1GH processor.
