Electronics Arts is readying the launch of its hugely popular Battlefield series on the iPhone and iPod touch.
The modern-day military shooter is a follow-up to the console game of the same name, featuring the elite ‘Bad Company’ unit the spinoff series is based on.
Although it’s not clear which part of the timeline the new story takes place in, EA has confirmed that the campaign will boast 14 missions, which include the high octane blend of land and aerial vehicular combat the franchise is best known for.
It will also have a multiplayer component, though details of the modes we can expect or the number of players that will be able to play at once have not been specified. But we at least expect it to include a four-on-four squad-based skirmish mode.
The iPhone has made amassed an impressive line-up of first-person shooters over the years despite its criticism as a ‘non-hardcore’ system and lack of physical controls.
EA will have its work cut out for it to compete with hotly anticipated sequels N.O.V.A. 2 and Modern Combat 2, which are loosely based on the Halo and Modern Warfare series on consoles.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will hit the iTunes App Store in November.
