Apple's iOS 4 is a more lucrative platform than Android for apps, according to devs.
In a poll of 2,400 developers conducted by IDC, 76 per cent named Apple’s smartphone operating system as the best for turning a profit on applications. Google’s Android platform was a poor second with just 19 per cent of the vote.
However, Apple’s smartie’s supremacy among the community is by no means set in stone, the poll revealed.
Asked to name the operating system that is 'best positioned for the future', 72 per cent of respondents named Android.
Meanwhile, 59 per cent of the sample said they foresee things ahead for Android software apps, compared with 40 per cent who felt the same about Apple’s iOS 4.
News of the findings comes as Android is set to go from a largely smartphone-only platform to being featured tablets, such as the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S.
The move into the slate market will open up another battlefront with Apple which has been dominating the nascent space with the iPad.
