A Sony Ericsson cameraphone packing an industry leading 16.2 megapixel snapper has turned up in Japan.
Reputedly part of the Cybershot range, the S006 features the highest-spec camera yet to feature on a smartphone and is capable of recording video at 60 frames per second in high definition. Its sensor also features technology to reduce shutter noise.
And the S006 is no slouch elsewhere, too, packing a 1GHz processor for smooth multi-tasking, a 3.3-inch touchscreen and the full complement of connectivity options.
In Japan, the phone runs Sony Ericsson’s own operating system. However, were it ever likely to make outside the Land of the Rising Sun, it is likely that it would be retooled to run something a bit more voguish – Android, most probably.
Current leaders in the UK megapixel race are Nokia’s N8 and the Sony Ericsson Satio, both of which are home to 12 megapixel cameras.
