Sony exec responds to PlayStation phone rumours, slams iPhone games

Sony Ericsson’s Senior Vice President of Marketing has commented on speculation about the fabled PlayStation phone, in the wake of what are claimed to be images of the device leaking online.

At a conference in San Francisco, Peter Dille refused to confirm or deny whether the snaps obtained by Engadget are of the real thing.

However, he did admit that the fact that the PSP only works via Wi-Fi networks had hampered the Playstation Network and said that a device with 3G network support, such as a smartphone, is likely to be more of a hit with gamers.

Dille told CNN: “I don't think we fully realise that vision with a Wi-Fi device. If it's not connected [to a cell network] then it does sort of limit people."

The Sony man also went on take a sly dig at the standard of smartphone games, marking the second time the company has disparaged gaming on handsets following a snidey US-only ad campaign for the PSP from earlier this year that lampooned iPhone titles.

"[Smartphone games] are largely time-killers.Gamers aren't satisfied with that,” he said.
