The Android version of the massively popular casual gaming title Plants vs Zombies is due for release early in 2011, games maker PopCap has confirmed.
Sameer Baroova, Development Director of PopCap, revealed the company’s plans for the franchise in an interview with Pocket Gamer, in which he also confirmed that its other massive-selling effort puzzler Peggle is coming to Android around the same time.
He said: “I am delighted to confirm that we are working on bringing both Peggle and Plants vs Zombies to Android in early 2011.”
The news will be consoling for Android gaming enthusiasts, who’ve been ill-catered for when it comes to games compared with the iPhone. However, latterly things have been undeniably been looking up. Not least in the wake of Rovio’s Angry Birds’ arrival on the platform last month.
Since landing in GetJar and Google’s official app store the Android Market, the full version of the title and the Lite edition has racked up a combined total of over three million downloads, putting paid to the perception that Android users aren't interested in games once and for all.
