The iPhone version of EA’s high-octane racer, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, has been released ahead of its console big brothers – if you live in New Zealand that is.
It seems that out lucky friends on the far side of the blue marble are the first to race on the cops-versus-racers series before it even arrives on consoles. We are not sure if this was a mistake on the Kiwi iTunes Store, but we suggest that you don’t take your chances and pick it up fast.
The iPhone edition comes with police versions of 15 blindingly fast, real-world production cars, including the Lamborghini Reventon, and 24 career events that pits you as a cop cum racer against increasingly tougher AI opponents that you must take down in time, and in style, too.
You can also go up against a friend over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But unfortunately that’s all there is in terms of multiplayer, with no online mode to speak of whatsoever, which is a surprise omission for such an established franchise.
On the bright side, the game takes full advantage of the iPhone 4’s Retina display, so you know it looks stunning.
As of writing the game is available for $6.49 (£2.99) on the New Zealand iTunes Store. Hopefully the wait won’t be much longer for iPhone owners on these shores.
