Epic Games’ and ChAIR Entertainment’s debut iPhone collaboration, Infinity Blade, is set to hit the App Store tomorrow. Or today, if you’re lucky enough to live in New Zealand.
Ever since the action role-playing title was unveiled at Apple’s press call in September, we have been anxiously awaiting its release. This is because the game is rendered by the same Unreal Engine 3 that powers the likes of Gears of War and Mass Effect on consoles. In other words, it’s one of the best looking games to grace a mobile platform.
Make no mistake, this technical showpiece plays as well as it looks. A gameplay trailer (see below) shows off impressive sword fights against giant bosses in large castle environments in the game’s single player campaign. As with most RPGs, players will also complete quests and earn experience points which can be spent to upgrade weapons, armour and level up their characters.
And yes, there will be a multiplayer component, too, but that's still not ready and will be released in a future update free of charge. However, GameCenter support with leaderboards and achievements will be present at launch.
The game is currently out on the New Zealand iTunes Store for $8.99 (about £3.49). Keep your eyes peeled for a worldwide release very soon.
