Sony Ericsson (SE) has ruled out an update to Android 2.2 for the entire line of Xperia X10 handsets, an Android fansite has claimed.
Owners of the X10, X10 and X10 Mini Pro are currently running the 2.1 version of Google’s operating system, which was made available late last year.
However, massive delays in making it compatible with their phones meant that before they got this version, users were frustratingly stuck on the ageing 1.6 iteration for months, while all round them Desire and Galaxy S owners were getting onboard with 2.2.
Now, it seems that there’s more update woe in store for X10 owners, if androidcommunity.com is to believed that is. In a posting put up this morning, the site claims that SE has confirmed that the “Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro will see no further Android OS updates beyond Android 2.1 Éclair”.
To soften the blow, the phone maker is planning to push out a multi-touch upgrade some time this quarter. That’s scant consolation, though, I’m sure you’ll agree.
