A new, free to download edition of Angry Birds has landed in the iPhone App Store, offering a set of new challenges for seasoned gamers to get their teeth in to.
Angry Birds Free features 12 levels not available in the full, paid-for or Lite version of the game, which are arranged into four mini episodes.
The completely gratis version of the title also offers Game Center support for playing online, plus leaderboards and achievements to add replay value.
News of the free version is sure to rub salt in the wounds of Windows Phone 7 (WP7) gamers, who are still waiting for the casual gaming phenom it to land on their handsets.
And more dread tidings arrived recently when games maker Rovio announced via Twitter that it now doesn’t expect to be able to bring it to Microsoft’s platform for several months.
The company has blamed the delays on the fact that WP7 ports “take a lot of work”.
