Samsung Galaxy S owners with unlocked handsets can now download a new Android update, albeit not Gingerbread, but freshly baked nonetheless, via the Samsung Kies software.
Version 2.2.1 may only be a minor bump over Froyo, but swats some pesky bugs in the OS and patches security vulnerabilities. More importantly, it is said to noticeably improve the speed of the handset, which should be great news for users who have suffered lag issues with the Galaxy S.
To grab the update, just download Kies from Sammy’s website to your PC and follow the on screen instructions.
Of course, as with any Android update, we strongly recommend backing up your phone first to avoid any loss of data.
There’s no word yet when the update may be rolled out for contract customers, but keep an eye out on Samsung’s Twitter and Facebook accounts for an announcement soon.
