The Samsung Galaxy S2 will pack a dual core processor and Super AMOLED Plus display, it has been confirmed, putting it on a par with the most powerful next-generation Android phones.
Details of the follow-up to the mega-selling Galaxy S, which had yet to be officially confirmed but is expected to debut at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), emerged in a press release announcing Sammy’s latest quarterly figures.
Tucked away therein was notice that the first half of 2011 will see the release of a “successor to [the] Galaxy S smartphone…featuring a dual-core processor and Super AMOLED Plus display to further enrich user experience”.
The rest of the handset’s spec sheet is as yet unconfirmed. However, according to previous leaks, it’ll ship with Android 2.3, AKA Gingerbread, out of the box and will feature Near Field Communication technology for contactless payments.
Samsung is tipped to officially lift the lid on the Galaxy S2 at a press event on February 13th on the eve of the MWC.
