Fandroids annoyed at seeing ads in their games, particularly the biggest mobile title in recent memory, Angry Birds, will at long last be able to enjoy it without pesky commercials getting in the way.
In response to a Twitter query about when a paid, ad-free version of the title would finally be available to Android, Rovio said: “give us another month and we’ll be there”.
Despite the massive success of premium titles on the iPhone, Angry Birds above all, Rovio decided to go the ‘freemium’ route on Android with advertisements to make up its revenue. And it’s paid off handsomely, too (we are talking a million dollars a month here). With the premium version the Finnish game maker will be able to further expand its revenue stream with in-app payments for additional content down the line.
And if we’re right, this top-tier version should also enable access to all the level packs and special editions released to date, sans ads.
Meanwhile, Rovio has also confirmed in a separate Twitter post that it will be releasing the next special edition in the Angry Birds franchise, Angry Birds Rio, in March 22nd. Rio, in case you didn't know, is a tie-in with 20th Century Fox's upcoming animation film of the same name. It will feature 45 new levels and a parrot named Blu from the film.
So there you have it, more Angry Birds mayhem incoming. Keep an eye out on the Android Market for the release of Angry Birds premium and Angry Birds Rio next month.
