Sony is working an Android tablet with a unique clamshell form factor, it has been reported.
According to sources cited by Engadget, the oval-shaped, two-part S2 slate will open on a hinge to reveal dual screens, presumably in a what looks like an, ahem, brave, attempt to distinguish its product from the slew of Android tabs coming to market this year.
Elsewhere, it’s reportedly packing a Tegra 2 dual core processor and the usual connectivity options that you’d expect in a high-end bit of kit, think: Wi-Fi, 3G, etc.
The insiders also disclosed that we can expect at least one camera, although it’s not yet clear if there’ll be a secondary snapper too for video calling.
Sony apparently plans to bring its iPad challenger to market in time for Christmas with a price point just shy of £600 when bought SIM free.
Not sold? Well maybe Sony’s 'other' forthcoming slate will wow. The tech giant is also reportedly prepping a second tablet running Windows Phone 7.
This will feature a slightly less unusual slider form factor and will retail for about £670 when bought sans contract.
