Coin-op classic-cum-beat ‘em up daddy Double Dragon has landed on the iPhone with revamped graphics and all-new moves.
Originally released in 1987, Double Dragon took arcades across the world by a storm and was followed by a home release on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) a year later. It eventually made its way onto almost all the great home and handheld consoles of the golden era and is widely considered one of the pioneers of its genre.
Now iFans who missed the original or want to relive it again can get down and dirty with the newly released iOS version, which has been packed with a gamut of extras by developer Bizio Interactive, not least of which include new combo attacks that can be performed with ease on the touch-friendly on-screen gamepad, plus a whole host of enemies, bosses, unlockable characters and achievements to keep going back for more.
There’s also local two-player co-op via Bluetooth, so you and your best chum can team up as the game’s characters Billy and Jimmy to kick, punch and smash your way through to the end to rescue their common love interest, Marian, from the evil Black Warriors gang.
Double Dragon is available right now for all iOS devices running version 4.1 or later for an introductory price of £2.39.
