The official Android and iOS apps for location-based social networking service Foursquare, have been bumped up to version three-point-oh, bringing with them some rather smart and all-new features.
Foursquare, in case you didn’t know, allows outgoing folk to ‘check-in’ at places they visit, share them with friends on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, earn ‘badges’ and ‘mayorships’, and leave useful tips that others can read.
The latest update adds an array of new features, including the ‘Explore’ tab that recommends places that might interest you within a certain (adjustable) radius of your current location based on your previous check-ins. It also takes into account your loyalty to certain spots - a certain coffee chain, for example, places liked by friends, and general types and categories of places you typically gravitate towards.
A ‘Me’ tab also lets you quickly peek into your Foursquare profile, which features an improved leaderboard with ‘points’ that you’ve earned from using the service in the last seven days, as well as how you’re doing compared to your friends and other useful titbits of info.
The update is available to download right now from the Android Market and App Store and requires devices to run Android 1.5 and iOS 3.0 or higher respectively.
