Smartfans in the UK and Europe eager to get their mitts on the hotly anticipated Optimus 2X handset will be able to do so in a matter of weeks, LG has confirmed.
The Korean giant has announced in a press release that the first bona fide successor to the original Optimus will be rolled out throughout Europe this month. Those living in Blighty can expect to snap it up with a variety of contract options on Vodafone and 3.
The Optimus 2X was officially unveiled to the world at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this month in Barcelona and packs a gamut of some of the best specs announced yet for a smartphone.
For starters, it runs on a blazing fast NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core 1GHz processor and packs an equally impressive 4-inch WVGA display, which coupled with a rear-mounted eight-megapixel camera enables video capture and playback in 1080p a la, HD. There’s also a front-facing 1.3-megapixel webcam for video calling, plus 8GB of internal memory which is expandable by up to 32GB using the microSD slot.
And last but surely not least, it's got 7.1 multi-channel virtual surround sound for an all-round eargasmic experience, too.
Alas, the LG Optimus 2X will initially launch with the ageing Android 2.2, aka Froyo. But LG assures us it will be upgradeable to 2.3 Gingerbread shortly after its release. On the bright side, Froyo is fully compatible with Flash Player 10.1.
