N.O.V.A. 2, the follow-up to Gameloft’s critically acclaimed first-person shooter, will be a timed-exclusive for Sony Ericsson’s soon-to-launch Xperia Play, it has been confirmed.
The sequel, which hit the iPhone late last year but has yet to make its way to elsewhere, will finally be landing on Android, exclusively on the Xperia Play for the first month of its release. After which it will be available to other devices.
The original N.O.V.A., or Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, as those who’ve played it will also know it, was first released for the iPhone in 2009 and was considered one of the best examples of an FPS on a mobile platform.
Like many before it, it's also a science-fiction shooter set in a distant future that takes it cues from Bungie’s mega-selling Halo and Nintendo’s Metroid franchises for its premise and the evil alien invaders that players have to battle against, known as Xenos.
The sequel takes the original up a notch with a brand new campaign and revamped online multiplayer for up to ten players, plus improved graphics and gyroscope support.
N.O.V.A. 2 joins the recently announced free roaming action-adventure BackStab to become the second timed-exclusive title for the Xperia Play, which is due to hit store shelves on April 1st.
