A fix Microsoft issued to remedy the troublesome Windows Phone 7 update it rolled out last month has been blighted by more problems, as fresh user complaints continue to surface online.
The original update, released as a prelude to a much more substantial OS overhaul at a later date, had failed to install properly on some ten per cent of handsets according to Microsoft, even rendering some, mainly the Samsung Omnia 7, inoperable. The software giant issued a patch this week to undo the damage, but that seems to have gone wrong also after users took to the Microsoft Answers forum to report an all-new error in the update process.
One aptly named user, Dave Not Happy posted: “Signed into Zune and an update for Samsung phones available. Did the install and finished with Error Code 800705B4 and no update.”
The cause of the error is still unclear to us with plenty of theories being thrown around the forums. Microsoft is already gathering information on the problem, but considering this is the second time an update has failed, a new fix may take even longer to arrive as the software giant looks to avoid further embarrassment.
