The much-rumoured Amazon Android tablet could be coming to us courtesy of Samsung, it has been claimed, as the online retailer builds on its recently launched app store for Android-powered kit.
Speculation that Amazon is prepping a branded tablet has been rife for weeks now, with analysts positing that the company’s marketing muscle and status as the key player in the eBook market could mean it’s in pole position to mount the most realistic challenge to Apple in the slate space.
That’s a view echoed by Engadget founder Peter Rojas. What’s more, in a thinkpiece in gdgt.com he claims that Amazon has already enlisted Samsung to manufacture the slate.
Rojas states: “It's something of an open secret that Amazon is working on an Android tablet and I am 99 per cent certain they are having Samsung build one for them.”
The piece goes on to posit that the Amazon tablet is likely to go on sale for the undeniably wallet friendly price of $250 or less (about £250), with the Amazon making up the difference from the subisided price point by app, ebook and music sales.
